Creation Creating Creation

Lately I've had the delightful opportunity to be rather creative! I've been able to do something creative, mainly calligraphy type things, almost everyday since I've gotten home. It's been so much fun! I'm loving getting to try new styles, nibs, inks, papers, colors, etc. It's really been a treat!

When I was in Pasadena there was one particular night that was rather special to those of us at project. It was a night where we had the freedom to worship as we chose, some went off to a quiet corner to pray, some gave, others sang out proudly, while others just sat and enjoyed the Lord's presence. That night I chose to write a note or two to a very wise and brave woman. I decided I wanted to make the note beautiful and practical, so I wrote out my words of sentiment on one side, and on the other I wrote out a favorite verse of mine, and then I just went to town trying to make it pretty. As I was sitting there doodling away, I wondered, "Is this a wise use of my time? Should I be singing or praying or something other than just drawing?"

The more I thought about it the more I realized that I was truly and genuinely worshiping The Lord as I sat on the ground and doodled flowers around a Bible verse. I was worshiping God by being creative. I mean what better way to worship the Almighty Creator God, than by creating!

Think about it, The Lord, the Ultimate Creator, created EVERYTHING. He didn't need to be inspired, everything on this glorious green earth God came straight from His imagination. How incredible is that when you really think about it? Absolutely everything came from His imagination, every color, season, feeling, smell, temperature, flower, etc, etc, etc

Are we able to make anything just with pure imagination?

Can we make something from nothing? Think about it, everything that we create, comes from something else! We make cookies from scratch, but what's scratch, it's eggs, flour, sugar, butter, etc, etc. See what I mean?

This thought has fascinated me for the past few weeks, to the point where every time I sit down to put pen to paper I have to stop and praise God for giving us the gift of creativity!

Isn't it just incredible that though we may not be able to create something out of nothing, we ARE able to make nothing into something.

The very first chapter of Genesis tells us that we are made in God's likeness, in HIS image! (Genesis 1:26-27) This is just another way we are like God. We are not God, but we are LIKE God. How cool is that!?

The world looks a little different now. I certainly see God in it a WHOLE lot more than I used to...and I pray that you do too! God has blessed you with the Glorious gift of creativity, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!

Here's just a few pictures of some of the things I've been working on lately!

Post Pasadena

So folks I've been home from Pasadena for just over one week! I can't believe it!

It's been great being home so far! I was afraid the transition might be difficult but it really hasn't been! The Lord has blessed me with some wonderful people in my life who have made this transition rather smooth!

The first few days just about all I did was watch TV and lay in the pool....and it was wonderful!!

The past few days I've been playing around and doing some calligraphy work!

It's been so much fun getting to be creative and play around with it! I've loved having the free time to try some stuff out!

This is one of my favorites!

Both of the above sets of cards are for sale...a set of 5 cards for $7!

All of these were just for fun and practice! I'm really having fun with the watercolors! I've even sold a couple pictures on Instagram...so if you see anything you like just shoot me an email (phoebe.thomas@gmail.com)

I also had the pleasure of addressing some wedding invitations for a friend of mine from Ruston! It was quite a task getting all 200+ invitations addressed in less than 2 days, (there was a timeline miscommunication) but I got them all done!

(I use Harry Potter's address just as a sample so I can put it on the internet)

So ladies and gents I'm available for hire for all your calligraphy needs ;)

This weekend I'm in Ruston for a lovely wedding! My sweet friend Amber is letting me stay with her! She's such a sweetie! And tomorrow I'll be heading up to Lampe to volunteer at K-West for a few days!
